Some of your framing questions are answered by our framing experts.
Q: How do I know what colors of matboard to use when I'm having a piece framed?
A: It's often helpful to choose an appropriate neutral color for the top mat. This allows the completed framing to have the versatility needed if you decide to display the piece somewhere other than where you originally intended. It is also helpful when combining with future framed pieces. To best compliment the art or object being framed, we recommend you choose the second and third most dominant colors from the object as the inner mat colors.
Q: Do you have any suggestions on how to group framed pieces together on my wall?
A: It's often more interesting to group several smaller framed pieces together as an alternative to one large piece. Remember to group similar subject matter and colors, but vary the sizes and styles of frames. To best visualize how to position the pieces, draw an imaginary line through the center point of the wall, horizontally and vertically, and the balance out the frames across the lines. The other edges of the frames do not have to line up.
Q: I want to frame a piece my kids made at school, but don't want to spend a lot of money. It's an unusual shape and I don't see a ready made frame on your sales floor that will fit. What can I do?
A: You have several affordable options. We can easily cut a mat that will help your object fit into a standard size frame. Another option is to use one of our sectional frame kits that will fit your art. A third option is a custom frame. We have a large group of mouldings that are nearly the same price as a ready made frame.
Do all of my frames in a grouping have to have matching frames and matting?
No, you can group framings based on subject themes such as travel, family, hobbies, and many others. The only necessary thread you need to tie them together is the emotions they convey when you view them.
